Different Towns, Different Rules
Water, sewer and permits aren’t handled the same way across Washtenaw County. The City of Ann Arbor runs its own water, sewer and permitting; YCUA serves the Ypsilanti area; the county building department covers many communities; and some, like those in the Western Washtenaw Construction Authority, have their own. Many rural homes are on private wells and septic.
We keep track of who handles what, so the right permit gets pulled and you know whom to call about the line at the street.

Service Area Questions
Do you serve my town?
We serve Ann Arbor and communities across Washtenaw County, including the cities and townships listed on this page. Call (734) 228-7852 with your address if you are not sure.
Is my home on city water or a well?
If you get a water bill, you are on a public system; if not, you likely have a private well, usually with a pressure tank in the basement.
Who issues plumbing permits where I live?
It depends on the community: the City of Ann Arbor uses its STREAM portal, many communities use the Washtenaw County building department, and some have their own. The plumber pulls the permit.
